Lists Make You Productive, Part Nine

There are tons of things that are better left inside one’s head.  And then there are things that are not, like goals.  Those are way better on paper, so if you conjure up excuses, they make that dramatic deflating balloon sound as soon as you speak them aloud.

So, I have this finished book.  That’s generally a good thing, or so I’ve been told.  In the next month, here’s what’s on tap:

  1. Shut the good hell up and finish my synopsis.  I’ve resisted doing it for a couple of years because it’s so incredibly laborious and boring, but this thing isn’t going to write itself.
  2. Tighten my query and, as soon as the feedback comes back from the editor who currently has it (assuming it’s positive), get this thing O-U-T out of my hands into the hands of agents.  Of course, she could always decide I am the Next Biggest Author in the History of Mankind and give me a ten book deal, in which case I won’t have to worry.  So, with the reality of that happening in mind, on to #3.
  3. Figure out to whom I’m actually querying.  This should probably be #1.
  4. Get my freelance career going at Secretariat pace.  If this new lead, which is so amazing it almost makes me physically sick, pans out, world will be awesome.  I must make it so.
  5. Devour Imperial Bedrooms in one sitting.

This all has to happen.  Now, all I need is time.  Oh.  Right.  That.
