Strangers in a Strange Land

I was always skeptical about how effective taking time away from my work would really be for the editing process.  I’m so invested in my text that it feels like I know it too well, no matter what.  But last night, I revisited a small section of manuscript for the first time in two weeks, and I can’t believe what a difference such a short period of distance makes.  I was able to dive in and steer the couple of scenes in a more directed, forwardly moving way now that I have some outlined goals since the last time I read it, and now I’m formulating some ideas that will help address these issues.  Tomorrow, with the arrival of my new, extremely portable computer (now I really have to become a writer to justify in full this purchase), I may even embark on a new chapter.  I know I need a lot more distance from it, but this is a start, certainly.

In other extremely related news, my novel needs a new title.  No one mentioned how extremely laborious this whole naming situation would be.  To the top of the queue it goes.
