And In With The New(ish)
I said goodbye to New York in the only way fit: a ride on the Coney Island Cyclone.  Scared shitless of roller coasters my entire life, it only seemed right to send myself off in the most Brooklyn of ways. (In other related news, goodbyes are hard, though I’ll opt to keep my romantic life out of the space of the Internet as much as possible.) All things considered, I’m fairly settled...

Deadlines and Deadpans
From the late-night deadline vault: It’s 1:30 a.m. and I have a couple of reviews for Skyscraper #29 due tomorrow (today) - a book, Zach Plague’s boring boring boring boring boring boring boring, and Envy’s Transfovista DVD - which I simply haven’t had a spare moment to write.  Needless to say, digging in late-night has had some seriously hilarious results. According to...

Save The World, Lose The Girl
The quest to read as much as possible before the summer ends continues. I finished What Is The What with much pleasure.  It took a whille to dig through it, but I feel enlightened - or at least slightly more aware - of a conflict and situation into which I had such little insight prior.  I am excited to continue digging through Valentino’s website to see the connection between the text and...

Your Highness, I Am Not Worthy
I find myself turning over a few ideas as of late.  Inspiration to start the following diatribe came from a woman who was passing me on my way to work this morning.  She stoppped me to tell me that “My outfit was going to give me trouble today.”  Naturally, in my dazed, sleepless state, I hadn’t the faintest idea what she meant.  I suppose my look of...

Coin Operated Girl
For October’s Performer Magazine I have the pleasure of writing the cover story about Amanda Palmer, the frontwoman of the Dresden Dolls who has embarked on a solo project in lieu of the stagnation of the Dolls.  I was slightly hesitant at first, not about taking the story, because a solo-artist angle is fairly simple with a good interview, but because I didn’t know how well my stuff...

A Bad Mixed Drink
Hey, you know that old saying to the tune of friends and business don’t mix? It’s very, very true.  I don’t consider myself an irrational or overly difficult person, but can see the acute, demonic truth between stirring up a cocktail of a relationship and a currency matter. Money, I wish you didn’t exist. M

City Street Sightings: 2
This week, only in New York: A man plucking his chest hair while sitting in a lawn chair on 18th Street in Brooklyn. A 20-something singing along to Christian Pop at the top of his lungs on the 4 train, intermittently screaming “Jesus” at passengers.

WWD Takeover
It’s official: we’ve taken over the world.  With our relaunch today, Women’s Wear Daily (wwd.com) has put its gentle footrprint on the Interwebs, and most specifically, 750 Third Avenue. Upon entering the office today, I stepped out of the elevator to free smoothies on my floor in WWD.com relaunch cups, and screened cookies with images of the site on it.  I love it!  Our issue...
